loudlabs.com COLTON - Late Monday night July 09, 2018 the Riverside Police Department responded to reports of a possible burglary in progress at an elementary school. The burglary was reported sometime around 11:30pm at Fremont Elementary School in the 1900 block of Orange Street. Officers located a vehicle leaving the area and attempted a traffic stop however, the driver and the three additional occupants refused to yield. Officers pursued the vehicle north on the 215 Freeway where speeds reached over 100 mph. As the vehicle approached the 10 Freeway, the driver lost control and crashed facing southbound in the northbound center divider. The driver and one other occupant fled from the vehicle. Police were able to quickly apprehend one of the suspects who fled along with the two suspects who remained in the vehicle. As of 12:00am Police were still searching for the second suspect who fled from the vehicle. According to unconfirmed reports from a witness, the suspects broke into the school and were attempting to steal a safe when Police arrived. The witness says the suspects panicked and left the safe behind when they fled the school.
