At the intersection of Route 27 and High Corner Street in beautiful downtown Damascus, Maryland. Directly ahead in the distance is the new Safeway being constructed at the Damascus Centre Shopping Center. To the immediate right is McDonald's. And the wonderful scent of a Big Mac and french fries in the air. Panning across the street, you can see the world-famous Jimmie Cone. Jimmie Cone has been in business since 1962 in Damascus, and also has a location in one of my other favorite towns, Mount Airy, Maryland. By the way, I'm standing in the Damascus Community Bank parking lot - that's my shadow at the beginning of the video - a small artistic flourish, I might add. I might also add that the Damascus Centre, along with the Shops at Sumner Place and the Collection at Chevy Chase, is a model for how a shopping center should be redeveloped. No mixed use, empty residential condos above. Just a nice shopping center that benefits the community. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to run across the street and get some ice cream.
