GHP SWAT Team Called Out in Whitfield County

Georgia's State Patrol SWAT team was called to Whitfield County Friday after a parole violator barricaded himself inside his home.It all began about 8:30 Friday morning when the Georgia Parole Office contacted the 911 Center requesting assistance at 210 Robbie Drive. They had gone to the home to arrest Derrick Lamar Chastain for violating the terms of his parole. Chastain refused to come out and barricaded himself in a bedroom, with a firearm.A Whitfield County Sheriff's Office Negotiator was called spoke with Chastain several times by telephone, but the man refused to surrender and the Georgia State Patrol S.W.A.T. Team was called.Just after Noon the negotiator was able to convince Chastain to come out peacefully.Officers recovered two rifles from inside the residence. Chastain is being held at the Whitfield County Jail without bond on the Parole Violation charge. Several additional charges are pending.
