“Three Days” BGM from the episode “School Raze, pt 1” of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S08E25).

--Overall Comments--

It's somehow already here: the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 8 finale! It seems like just yesterday the season was beginning...

Everything the season has been building up to culminates in this week's season finale, as too-nice-to-be-real Cozy Glow finally puts her sinister plan into motion, with help from an old villain, Tirek! It's up to the Mane 6, Spike, the CMC, and the Young 6 to work together to defeat her and her dastardly plan.

As with all two parters, this one is filled to the brim with score. Totaling at 24 tracks and 34 minutes, while it might not best last season's finale in track count, it does top it in overall length, featuring multiple 2 minute+ tracks.

One of the most enjoyable parts of this finale's score is certainly the culmination of many of the leitmotifs introduced in this season and past. Both Cozy and Chancellor Neighsay are featured prominently throughout the episode, and both bring with them their motifs which were introduced in their introductory episodes this season.

In addition, Tirek returns for the first time since Twilight battled him in the season finale (excluding his brief cameo in the season 5 finale), over 4 years ago. As soon as he appears on screen, we hear his menacing orchestral leitmotif which accompanied him prior all those years ago. It's great that much like the character, his theme was not forgotten either; William Anderson is great at keeping track of all of these.

Tons of score this week, so let’s dive in!

--Track Specific Comments--

Twilight and Friends are called to Canterlot to discuss the disappearance of magic with the other princesses. While there, they receive a letter from Starswirl the Bearded, saying that he believes they have only three days until all magic disappears from Equestria forever.

This track begins with an old yet familiar theme is used. This ominous sounding motif is based off the Season 2 main theme, which was featured in that season's premiere & finale's credits. This more perilous version was featured heavily in the Season 4 finale, which of course was Tirek's first appearance.

Another very familiar theme appears later in the track, as Twilight mentions how she knows all of the Mane 6 must do this together. For this moment of friendship, William Anderson brings back one of the series' most iconic leitmotifs, "The Magic of Friendship," which was another prominent theme throughout Season 4.
