World-famous martial artist, Bruce Lee stated, "Learning is not about adding things, but taking away that which is not needed." Many new drivers work harder than required because they follow too close; consequently, they are often driving in stop-and-go conditions that they themselves created.

First and foremost, drive in the space between the clusters of traffic. And by maintaining a buffer of space in front of your vehicle and timing the traffic lights a driver can keep the vehicle moving. By keeping the vehicle moving, a commercial driver will attain a higher average speed over the course of his or her day.

On a multi-lane road with three or more lanes, drive in the middle lanes to avoid turning traffic that slows and impedes your forward momentum. And always, always control the space in front of your vehicle.

By controlling the space in front of your vehicle you can work the throttle, control your speed, and keep the vehicle moving to reduce stops in traffic.
