Here are 10 Amazing Ways To Use Lemon In Your Kitchen! #1. Remove refrigerator odors easily. Dab lemon juice on a cotton ball or sponge, and leave it in the fridge for several hours to let it absorb odors. Make sure to remove everything that might be causing the bad smell, so that your lemon works most effectively. #2. Prevent Cauliflower From Turning Brown If you don't like, when cauliflower turns brown during cooking, lemon can help to solve that problem. Just squeeze a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice on cauliflower, before heating it to keep it white. #3. Refresh Your Cutting Boards If your cutting board's smell is far from what you would expect from it, lemon can fix it for you. Just rub it all over with the cut side of half a lemon, or wash it in undiluted lemon juice straight from the bottle. #4. Keep Insects Out of the Kitchen To protect your kitchen from the little intruders, give it the lemon treatment. Squirt some lemon juice on door thresholds and windowsills. Then squeeze lemon juice into any holes or cracks, where the ants are getting in. And finally, scatter small slices of lemon peel around the outdoor entrance. Lemons are also effective against roaches and fleas. Simply mix the juice of 4 lemons (along with the rinds) with 1/2 gallon (2 liters) of water, and wash your floors with it. Fleas and roaches hate the smell. #5. Fruit and Vegetable Wash Lemon can help to remove any dirt or pesticides from your veggies. Use one tablespoon of lemon juice per spray bottle. The juice is a natural disinfectant, and will leave your fruits and vegetables smelling nice too. #6. Deodorize Your Garbage Save leftover lemon and orange peels, and toss them at the base under the bag. To keep it smelling fresh, repeat once every couple of weeks. #7. Make Soggy Lettuce Crisp Add the juice of half a lemon to a bowl of cold water. Then put the soggy lettuce in it, and refrigerate for 1 hour. Dry the leaves completely, before putting them into salads or sandwiches. #8. Room's Scent And Humidity It is especially useful on dry winter days. If you have a wood-burning stove, place an enameled cast-iron pot or bowl on top, fill with water, and add lemon (and/or orange) peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and apple skins. No wood-burning stove? Use your stovetop instead, and just simmer the water periodically. #9. Remove Tough Stains on Marble Unlike stones, marble is actually petrified calcium; this is why it is so porous and easily stained. If washing doesn't help, try this: Take half a lemon, dip the exposed flesh into some table salt, and rub it vigorously on the stain. Rinse well. But use it as a last resort, since lemon's acid can damage marble. #10. Clean Tarnished Brass and Polish Chrome Make a paste of lemon juice and salt. You can use baking soda instead of salt. Apply the paste on the affected area, and leave it there for 5 minutes. Then wash the area using warm water, rinse and polish dry. The paste is also useful for cleaning metal kitchen sinks. Just apply the mixture, scrub gently, and rinse. If you rub lemon rind over the chrome faucets, you can remove tarnish and mineral deposits from them. Rinse well, and dry with a soft cloth.
