by Alyssa Spirato City leaders are targeting Chattanooga's inner city youth through music. The group, Stars of Chattanooga is comprised of a number of Chattanooga teens. They write, produce and record their own songs. They even operate their own recording studio which is nestled right in the Eastdale Community Center. For Vanessa Stubblefield Roddie, all you need is a smooth beat and microphone to send a strong message. Violence doesn't make sense to me. It's pointless to me. It's something that I feel for innocent people getting shot, innocent bystanders. I don't know how people can just take somebody's life, says Stubblefield.Stubblefield is just one of a number of teens who are Stars in Chattanooga. They want to stop violence and send a positive message to teens who may be moving down the wrong path. Thanks to Chattanooga Parks and Recreation, their message can be heard loud and clear. These kids have put together a CD, but a couple of stories with those kids is that a couple of them were suspended from school. One gentleman brought in a weapon to school and was suspended. One gentleman was failing at school. But since he's been a part of this program spending time with us, both of their grades have turned around. They're much more confident about themselves, says Brian Smith with Chattanooga Parks Recreation.Johnny Rollins, who's also known as Pashin also shares a love for music. He says sending positive messages through music can help make a difference.I feel that I am a positive role-model to little kids and kids that are younger because I'm doing a positive thing in music which everybody loves, says Rollins.Roddie and Pashin are two out of a dozen kids who were chosen by the Gang Task Force to record songs. There's 12 different songs on the album all from different artists. They will be holding a concert Saturday night beginning at 7 at Hamilton Skate Park in Chattanooga.
