I finished making my solar oven except for the reflectors. It appears I don't need them for now because slow cooking does not require such a high temperature. I actually overcooked my egg custard by leaving it in the oven for more than 35 minutes when the oven was at 240 degree F. In my oven, when the temperature reaches 240 F, the water starts to boil and that's not good for slow cooking. I'd say 225 to 235 F would be a good temperature judging from I've seen today. Yes, this oven can actually make water boil. For dinner I made pork chops, egg custard, garlic shrimp and brown rice. They are all made ahead of time so I have to reheat them by dinner time. With an outside temperature of 92 or so, my kitchen is not hot and I'm not bothered. It is a fun and green project. Do I want a commercial unit? Definitely, but they are half the size and cost about $300.
