A Chattanooga Police officer is fighting back after being suspended. After months of investigating, Chattanooga's police chief determined that Officer Alex Olson would be disciplined for his actions that led to gunfire.

Wednesday, Olson's attorney revealed that he's planning to appeal that disciplinary action. The incident happened back in October, when police say the suspect, Luster Deloney, drove through a stop sign, and officer Olson started following him. When Deloney pulled into a dead end, he threw the car in reverse and backed into officer Olson's car. Olson was outside the car when he pulled his gun and fired four times..

While no one was hurt, an Internal Affairs investigation determined Olson did not follow policy when he fired at a fleeing vehicle. We reached out to Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher about Olson's Appeal- in a statement he tells us: "I stand by my decision, but I also support Officer Olson's appeal 100 percent under the officer's right to due process. We value Officer Olson in this department, and that is why he will be welcomed back when his suspension is over."

While Fletcher stands firm on his decision, some fellow officers say they're supporting his decision to fight back.
Sean O'Brien is the President of the Fraternal Order of Police- who's state office is providing Olson the legal aid to contest the punishment. "We're supporting him in seeking his appeal of the discipline that's been issued, which is allowed by city policy," says O'Brien.
