Fishing at the Bonneville Dam-- May--- July is American Shad season on the Columbia River below the Bonneville Dam. ODFW, USDA, US ACOE, WDFW, and CRITFC it appears they would rather waste time and tax dollars undermining wild salmon and steelhead recovery by wagging war on California and Steller sea lions below the Bonneville Dam and in the Willamette River under the factious guise of wild salmon protection.

Humans can be seen killing American Shad and Pike Minnow below the Bonneville Dam-- with no catch limit while sea lions get bombed and shot at and killed ---now, for merely being in the Columbia River estuary. Historically this was always their home.

There is a pay- out for humans to catch pike minnow and remove the fish eating fish from the Columbia River. Someone reeled in over $80,000 dollars in 2011 catching Pike Minnow in the Columbia River below the Bonneville Dam. While the sea lions who also catch pike minnow and eat American Shad get bombed trapped and killed for eating and being in their own Columbia River estuary home. It has been reported by the US ACOE that NOT all of the sea lions that venture up the Columbia to the Bonneville Dam and down the Willamette River eat salmon . Some animals such as the younger animals are not proficient and nor quick enough to be able to catch a healthy game fish and yet they are indiscriminately killed.

California and Steller sea lions are native to the PNW and these curious creatures have been in the Columbia River estuary and adventuring up the Columbia River to winter at Celilo Falls for over ten thousand years. Celilo Falls which was once the natural bottleneck and pinniped barrier on the Columbia River. Only the strongest salmon and not the slow heavy sea lions could ascend these mighty falls. Celilo Falls have been flooded by the Dalles Dam's Reservoir since 1957. Now the river is a series of warming, quiet bass filled slack water lakes taking the place of the once thunderous sound of cold flowing Columbia River water pounding on rocks and bountiful wild salmon leaping.

Celilo Falls--on the Columbia River since time immemorial was the place for wild salmon and its people. It has been ecocide for wild salmon, their people and the 130 other species that rely on salmon for their very sustenance not sport. To drown Celilo Falls and turn the once tumultuous, cold flowing rapids on the Columbia River into a series of warm slack water lakes has been disaster for salmon smolt who must be pushed towards their adult habitat the sea in a timely manner.

Now California and Steller sea lions are being scapegoated targeted and killed for merely being in the Columbia River above below the Bonneville Dam and on the superfund site they call the Willamette River. Even though every resident and migrating fish in the Columbia/ Willamette River comes with a consumption warning..

Killing sea Lions will not save the Salmon. There is no peer reviewed literature to support killing sea lions as a means to increase populations of wild salmon. On the other hand there is plenty of peer reviewed literature to support that killing sea lions in the Columbia River estuary causes more harm to wild salmon than good. There is plenty of peer reviewed literature to support that sea lions are important to the health and productivity of the PNW ecology and that they make it possible for the aquatic habitat of the Columbia River estuary to be able to support large populations of wild native cold water fish such as anchovies and sardines that wild salmon and steelhead rely on for their very sustenance and life-- not for profit or sport.

ODFW, WDFW, USDA,,NMFS, USACOE and CRITFC's shrinking data for the public scapegoats precious wild salmon along with the sea lions. New violent policy now erases the public's ability to hold these agencies accountable for these violent crimes against Mother Nature and all of her human and non-human animals friends.

-As long as Oregon, Washington and Idaho wants their economies propped up on the backs of wild salmon and to profit from the removal of the wild salmon's habitat. The wild salmon will continue to perish. To continue to scapegoat and kill both species for human greed is not wild salmon and wild salmon habitat life support, restoration, and conservation as they claim it to be. It is quite the opposite and there is plenty of peer reviewed literature to prove it..
We all deserve to eat
We all deserve a safe place to sleep
We all deserve a safe place that we can call home.

Please make a call a day until this killing stops.
