Over 100 canoes ablaze as operation against illegal fishing intensifies

The fight against illegal fishing on Lake Victoria has intensified, with the UPDF seizing fishing gear and more than 100 canoes and setting them ablaze. 

Most of the illegal gear was hidden in papyrus plants on the shores of the river in Namayingo district. 

The operation was carried out in Bumalenge and Simbale in Sigulu Islands sub county.
