Twelve Blue wildebeest calves, also known as Brindled gnu, join the Park's 29 animals. The majority of Port Lympne's wildebeest live on the African Experience section of the park which is a 100 acre area of open countryside where they roam freely with other African wildlife including Zebra, giraffe and black rhino. The calves were all born within a few weeks of each other at the beginning of May. In the wild this seasonal breeding, timed to occur two to three weeks before the summer rains, means that a flood of offspring prevents the new population becoming decimated by predators.
