This 17-year-old Miniature Pinscher suddenly panted and shivered overnight. She would not eat. There was pain in the throat. Medicial evidence from blood tests and X-rays of the lungs and heart was not available owing to economic reasons. The dog's teeth were never scaled for the past 17 years and were encrusted with tartar and bacterial plaques. An IV drip with antibiotics and pain-killers was given. The dog was anaesthesized with isoflurane gas and 3 rotten teeth were extracted. Follow up 24 hours later - the dog was shivering a bit but started eating.
