I consider this the 1st real show that i did. it felt real at least. Al the things that i endured up to this point of my life had payed off. I was able to teach at the very 1st high school in the country, that as completely green, it was only 3 years old at the time. And the guard was really fresh and hungry, they unfortunately had a previous instructor that was causing hell for them, i cant go into all the details, but its something that should land you in Jail. I got the offer, and i saw it as an chance to prove myself. And after hearing all these things, it felt to do a show that felt was going to do some good for them as performers, as well as people. We had every guy do a piece with a female performer, to express one sided, toxic, vulnerable, desperate and in the end , self esteem ideas, to project the journey of the individual to the audience. We used Linkin Park's Iridescent as the song to help us heal. Cuz to us this wasnt just a performance this was therapy. Getting them to sing along with each other, and raising their fists literally let go, and move away from what was bringing them down was such a powerful moment, and its the riskest move ive ever done, have not quote :nothing happening on the floor for 30 seconds, was a gamble but it wasnt just to get them to catch their breath for the last push to the end, it was imperative to the show for them to do this,. We went through a literally transition of working together to all these things off our backs, and move on, and look forward to the bright warm future. Even tho the show was titled let it go, many people were expecting a frozen show, but we certainly made the right call with this music. It is a little repetitive, lyrically speaking, but its the heart of trying to convey the idea of what we wanted. I was able to write great movement with the help of my staff member Abby, who pulled of the emotional part so convincingly, which freed me up to write drill that was seamless with the movement. We had some risky toss moment in the show, but the members pulled it off and the days it counted. I tell you, pressure is a extreme motivator. It as fun to do the stripping fature, tho not my idea, it was out of left field and got the right reaction, and thats all it needs to get my vote. The flag feature was learned in a day, and i admit, it was written on the spot, but damn it popped with those flags man. The kids were undefeated al year, and yet i couldnt make it to the championships performance because i was marching in motion at he time, and i regret it to this day, i missed a lot of performances because i had, ill call them prior commitments. And man, they took home 2nd place, which is astounding considering where the were the season before, i just wished i couldve see the champs performace at least. Man what a great show.
