Interpretation is something that happens everyday, but flipped interpretation is something i like to do. Theres always the guard that does queen song and We didnt set out to do a bohemian rhapsody show just to do it. But a dark interpretation behind it seemed like something few have explored Tone and vibe definitely played apart into this show. And writing about crazy people can be fun, considering most crazy people dont realize that they are crazy. Watching the american horror story was definitely inspired us for this show The mad scientist twiosting up sane people, and turning them into those around them. Thats a scary thought being fully aware of your fate, knowing its only a matter of time until it happens This is actually one of the few times that the flag silks matched our concept, even though they were meant for a completely different concept, the dark twist and all. This is definitely top 5 of shows that ive been a part of. IRight off the bat, judges said we were too violent. That screamed that lean does just pulls you in. I usually make shows based what we want to see, what the audience reacts to, and make that our performance, which i guess is why our shows come out so different. That opening dance was setup by shawnda, i wrote the chreo, and our captain cleaned that. it really setup the build of the show, hinting of the queen stuff, and back into the insanity. It cracks me up that the highest toss comes from our smallest performer, lena and i had a lot of fun writing that solo. This rifle feature was the 1st ive done with members spinning rifle, it was the challenge of the season hands down, but it certainly paid off. Im sure we scared alot of parents with our bloody hand prints on our rifles. It was nice to write around the chreo, with the lyrical interpretation, but yet simple with the music accent happening in 3's. A big shout out to Leslie (The hair), that girl defied all my prejudice when wrote that cartwheel toss, she was the only girl to pull it off. That part where patients get pulled behind the doors, was a subtle hint as to what was going on, theres an old song called, behind closed doors, and one can only imagine what was going on, so it was nice to make the audience think something horrific happened. Eventualy me and shawnda agreed what goes on in your mind is the heart of the show. Silks represented being trapped in side, unable to break free, it was nice to have that barbed wire silk. That flag exchange is one of my favorites, i dare any color guards to try and pull it off as we did. The last weapon toss for the rest of th show was a huge risk, but it was crucial to tackle other neglected areas. I cant take any credit writing this flag feature, it was al shawnda, and she really knocked it out of the park. I took a backseat, and watched clean and rearrange for hours, and i was just taking notes stealing all her best moves. Lol. We learned alot from each other that season. ANd this ending is so.... sad, its a inter show that doesnt have a happy ending, while depending on your interpretation of happy that is. So it was a nice change of pace tone wise, and we proved to ourselves that we can really take a concept any direction we wanna go, if its done correctly.
