Sea lions were trapped, and branded with hot irons at the East Mooring Basin, Astoria, Oregon 8 /19/ 14. This archaic and cruel practice must cease. It was disturbing to witness the sea lions go through this, and smell their burnt flesh and hear their screams of agony. They all felt the pain, and the burning upset everyone present. Humans have many food choices in the comfort of their warm homes that the Columbia River Dogs do not. Only the cold fish that they catch and humans must not be able to deny them that--humans are by far the biggest extractors of fish and habitat. We must learn to share with the world around us. Scapegoating sea lions will not save the salmon, and branding sea lions in the name of research when there is no medical aid for the sick, starving, stranded, wounded. Only money to kill the healthy ones for eating is not conservation, but devastation and eradication of these animals that belong to everyone, and everyone, needs to eat, so " Clemency Now For the Hungry " Oregon, please stop participating in the "lethal take" of sea lions on the Columbia River for eating fish.
