Amaechi appears before Senate

The Nigerian Senate has adjourned till Tuesday, a day after screening five ministerial nominees presented by President Muhammadu Buhari. One of the nominees screened on Thursday is the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, whose screening has been shifted several times due to a petition against him, filed by a group in Rivers State over allegations of corruption and criminalbreach of trust. His screening had suffered several shifts because the report of the Senate ethics committee on petitions against him was not ready. Amaechi was the first of five nominees slated for screening on Thursday. Other nominees screened by the senate are former senator from Bayelsa state, Heineken Lokpobiri, Claudius Omoyele Daramola, an academic, Baba Shehuri Mustapha, and Ocholi Onojo James.After screening five ministerial nominees, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki adjourned sitting to Tuesday, October 27.
