Nasir El-Rufai, Nigeria's former minister of of the federal capital territory, was one of the guest speakers at the Law Week event organised by the Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association in Lagos. He spoke broadly on the subject of corruption, Boko Haram and division in the country. Even though he has a corruption case hanging over his neck in court, the former minister launched a tirade against the federal government accusing it of simply stealing to prepare for the next election. Mr El-Rufai is standing trial in court for allegedly acquiring land for himself and members of his family fraudulent while he was minister of the country's capital, Abuja. However, he maintains that the charges are politically motivated. He used to be a member of the ruling PDP but defected to the opposition Congress for Progressive Change after he left government.
