CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There was a new class of graduates in Cincinnati Friday night, January 13. A ceremony took place for the most recent class of "Cincinnati Cooks" students. The free culinary job training program is a 10 week course where students learn about food preparation and presentation, as well as basic nutrition and knife skills. It's part of Mayor John Cranley's 'Hand Up Initiative' which helps people get out of poverty by connecting them with job training programs. Student Shannon Wilson said, "They fine tuned me in a major way. At first I was cooking stuff out of a box and now I'm cooking everything from scratch." The lessons learned go beyond the kitchen into everyday life. Fourteen students graduated in Friday's class.
