The Dealer is More Important than the Brand of Tractor You're Buying

When buying a tractor, the dealer you're talking to is more important than the brand you're looking at. That's the opinion of a local family-owned dealership and one that I share. When I'm asked what type of tractor should I buy, my answer is almost always, "Find a dealer you trust and buy what they're selling!"

Marshfield Machinery was one dealership that was a joy to call on when I was an AGCO rep. It is run by Wayne, and his son Ron who is in today's video, and they cater to a very loyal group of customers and have a great deal of fun doing it.

When I was their rep, I would show up near the end of the month and there would always be a nice stack of "settlements" (the paperwork a dealer does after the sale) and a big check waiting for me to take away. I'd take them out to lunch and leave with a smile.

They were more than a little concerned when I went to work for a major competitor. I left AGCO to go to work for a dealership that was 13 miles away, but, their customers were so loyal, we never saw them, with very few exceptions. They know how to take care of people.

Ron has been very supportive of me starting this channel and I want to acknowledge his contribution. I get many questions from my viewers, and being a sales guy, I don't always know the answer to service-related questions. If it's an Allis Chalmers, Massey Ferguson or Mahindra question, I send it to Ron, he answers it, and I send it on to the viewer. It helps me look a lot more like a tractor "expert" than I really am, but Ron doesn't seem to mind. Today you get to see where some of the answers come from.

I asked Ron to give advice to novice tractor owners. We went off on a safety rant, he's as concerned as I am about keeping all operators out of harm's way. We don't want to scare you, but it's important to have a healthy respect for the equipment.

I also asked Ron the best time of year to buy a Massey Ferguson or Mahindra tractor, and if you're interested in one of those brands you'll want to hear what he has to say.

Marshfield Machinery is just off the square in Marshfield, Missouri in a cool older building that's been in continuous business since 1939.
