In the first half of this video, you will see the first stage of R-Type, the classic Arcade game which you might have played on one of these systems: Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Game Boy, MSX, PC Engine, Master System and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. There is even a version for mobile phones, and the TurboGrafx-16 version was also released on the Wii Virtual Console. Seeing that no NES version of this Arcade classic was made, a company under the name of Magic Series Corp decided to do their own port, which was made without the authorization of Nintendo which normally needs to approve a game before it is released on one of their consoles. For their conversion, Magic Series Corp renamed the game as Magic Dragon, probably for legal issues, I'm not sure. I can't believe how inferior it is to the original. It looks like they put all the effort in reproducing the same level design, everything is placed and structured the same, but they stopped there. There's barely any work in the graphics, including animations and colors. They also tried to reproduce the music, but they made it sound like the most boring shit ever after removing lots of instruments from the original. The gameplay and controls feel similar enough, but you'd rather play another official port, it's incredible how the Sega Master System version looks compared to this. You could also play other NES shoot 'em ups, like Abadox, Gradius, 1942, 1943, etc. There were a ton of them and they are all proof that this type of game can look and sound way better than this, even on the good old NES.
