Don't be fooled by the title, it is in fact the third game of the Adventure Island series, in its Game Boy incarnation. It's one of those titles with numbering issues like what happened with the famed Final Fantasy series. In Japan, all games up to the third were already available for the Game Boy, but the rest of the world only got the second game and the third game of the series for the Game Boy. What they did is they renamed the second game of the series as Hudson's Adventure Island and they called this third one Hudson's Adventure Island II for the Game Boy since it was really only the second one to be released outside Japan for the Game Boy, despite being really the third one for them. If you know the series from the NES, there's no numbering issues, except that it would seem the third one was not released in Europe, only in America and Japan, but they got the first two games and properly numbered.
