A minor appeared before the Port of Spain Children's Court on Wednesday following an investigation into threats to kill the Commissioner of Police.

The boy pleaded guilty to the charge of misuse of a telephone to issue threats when he appeared before Master Ali. He is to return to Court on January 16th and was released into the custody of his parents.

The boy, accompanied by a male relative, surrendered to officers of the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Tuesday morning.

The charge follows investigations into a report of death threats being made against Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, around 8:25am on November 18th by a male caller to the E999 Command Centre.

According to police, this incident is separate from the death threat Commissioner Griffith received on Wednesday when the Command Centre received a call around 1:30am during which a caller threatened the lives of the Commissioner of Police and his wife.

Officers have since arrested the man who made those threats. Acting on intelligence, they executed a warrant and arrested the 35-year-old suspect at his Gasparillo home around 4pm on Wednesday. The phone used to issue the threat was seized and the suspect was taken to the Port of Spain CID, where he is expected to be charged.
