Is social media ruining us? Does it affect our mental health?

Personally I believe that with every scroll through Instagram or Facebook, if done incorrectly... our mental health gets affected.

I get it, social media (if used right) is a tool that you can use to your advantage. I personally have. I wouldn't be able to work from home, share this like I am, connect with others or make an income without it...

But honestly, social media is brutal.

We constantly compare ourselves and our lives to other people's 'highlight reel'. We see a photo of someone we admire to be like and then question why we don't live like that. With every comparison we lose confidence and question where we're going in life.

It takes away REAL community. My grandad (who's 92 and has never touched the internet) has survived tough times because of the community around him. He told me when shit got tough in the war, they'd go to drink and TALK about what happened. They supported one another. He knows everyone down his road, he's built a supportive community around him. Your virtual interactions will never make you feel as good as a physical interaction. Relying on our phones for that support and community is sad. My grandad met my nan rollerskating, he didn't swipe right. Every time we're in a public space and feel uncomfortable we're triggered to pull out our phones and scroll.

Everyone can share whatever they feel like sharing on social media. The positive? Amazing, talented people can share their work and opinions. The downside? It's easy to share embarrassing photos of each other and put each other down, kids as young as 12 have killed themselves because of embarrassment on social media. Bullying isn't happening between 9-3 whilst your at school now, it's 24/7 through social media, Logan Paul is sharing a video to 15 million people which features a suicide victim...

All in all social media is revolutionary, but used in the wrong way it's dangerous. I'm scared for my children and others who have all of this to come
