The dow jones closed up 618 points with the main driver being comments made by fed chair Jay Powell. This move has a lot of significance as what Powell said really changed investors expectations for the amount of rate hikes in 2019 and 2020. This approach is similar to what Janet Yellen did in 2014 so it is interesting to see how this plays out, if he walks back his comments and where the market goes from here. Regardless, you can see that the move was caused by something of pretty large scale and this is stuff to study to understand the stock market better and what causes it to move.
