With some light snow on the ground, here was the chance to try out my winter stove on a frozen wood block with a cooking task,,,a quick simmer of noodles and a longer gentle simmer of chicken noodle soup. Winter fires really benefit from being off the cold damp ground and the stove has a raised base so the initial heat of a fire should remain within the metal plates to a degree and so utilise more heat to encourage the fire triangle..Once the fire was under way the hot plate was fitted, but this could be in place at the start, to put two cooking vessels on top and begin cooking the food..noodle for my youngest and chicken soup for the good lady..neither pot caused any problems both attained and held a light simmer which showed the gentle way the stove gives the heat to the upper plate whilst giving considerable heat out front!! At night with low light to know the character of the stove will get me used to cooking times in the future ie trusting it's capabilities without using a torch to constantly check on its' progress..The result was a dead easy preparation of two light meals, either of which would have warmed someone up on a snowy December night, without using a vast amount of fuel..and a source of charcoal, which is kept dry by the top plate from light rain/snow for other uses the next day.
