Short conclusion to the winter cooking using my steel stove, the initial fire was a test of having very few prepared feather sticks replicating a situation were the fire has to be lit in a matter of minutes,ie 2 mins of chopping to achieve thumb thickness kindling and let's GO!This would negate a long prep time, clearing a fire lay, placing a bed of wood to isolate from the ground and rigging up a screen to shield match from wind..the stove can be roughly assembled with gloved hands in 25-30 secs,2 mins of chopping and then a few feather sticks for the start..one match and add feather sticks as you go already getting warmed hands from the flame..or at least that was my goal in the stoves concept.
The top plate allowed a large pot and a canteen cup to fit on it..and the heat out front was lovely..it was quite comfortable at 2 degrees sat on the stoves bag on a chair just watching the pots simmer..by the time I had served the food in dishes and then went back to deal with the fire the noodles etc. were history but they wondered why I had taken 10 mins to prepare their meal...oh well never mind..it's the thought that counts eh?
