Denver Lighting Company www.denverlightingcompany.com I have been shooting with a Canon 5d for a long time now and have been thinking about upgrading to a C100 so I rented one with a Atmos Ninja to see what I can do with it and compare it to my 5D. I only had it for a few days so I filmed this test scene in my wife's dance studio. Its part of a trailer for a film idea I have. This scene is referencing a secret code transmitted through the air waves via a "number station" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station I find short wave number stations fascinating and wanted to incorporate the idea in my film. there are 2 other parts to this trailer idea, so more work to do. I took the number station idea and imagined secret phrases hidden in a seemingly random broadcast of words. The character finds the words on the beat of the metronome and letters appear when a key is overlaid on top. The ergonomics, the lack of needing crazy amounts of extra rigging gear, and the tools the C100 provide made this fun and easy to shoot. I added the Ninja to get the higher ProRes files from the HDMI out ( I wanted to compare the internal codec with the ProRes and see how far I can push this all in post ). I was sad to have to return the C100 and hope we cross paths again. The small dance studio has a giant mirror on the wall so the shooting angles were limited. I didn't have a radio so I used a yoga block and a iphone ( that lit up when he "turned on" the radio ). The room was dark except for a 60w light hanging above. The C100 handled the darkness perfectly. I had the A/C running the whole time so I added in the Foley after along with some royalty free music ( from Video CoPilot ). I have mad respect for Foley artists. I didn't have a shotgun mic so I just used my Zoom H4n, which was not ideal, but its all I had.
