Prompted by a recent local tragedy, Sian has recorded a playlist that deals with our relationship with the life-giving element of water. A glittering ocean on a sunny day is an enticing sight, but it can still kill. Basic safety precautions when at the beach rely on our situational awareness - check conditions, tides, currents - ask local lifeguards if they are present. Always be aware of the whereabouts of your group - keep an eye out for each other. Make sure your children are aware of potential risks. Avoid swimming out further than you can easily return to shore from - make a cautious estimate of your abilities, and allow for the fact that they may be impacted by currents, the size of the waves, your own health. Don’t fall into the trap of believing that plastic flotation devices will keep you safe - they may actually contribute to your problems if you are clinging to them and being washed out to sea. Enjoy the ocean - but please, stay safe.
