These guys are so funny to watch, and that is probably why they are one of San Francisco's biggest money makers. Pier 39 came in a close second to the city's biggest tourist draw-- the wine tasting tours. It goes to show people like their wine and sea lions. The Oregon coast is lucky enough to have great wine and wonderful Sea Lions-- The city of Astoria and the town of Bonneville would be smart to embrace these river friends. Pier 36 can be a tourist hot spot instead of boat motel for grouchy fishermen. Not everyone makes a living killing fish--fisheries worldwide are collapsing -- The towns not currently able to pay meet their current budget demands --might like to mirror San Francisco -- higher up the river the sea lions could be a real positive cash boost 3 months out of the year in tourism dollars for a small town like Bonneville. Instead of scaring away the tourists by letting ODFW and the Dept. Agriculture turn their town into a anti indigenous wildlife war zone-- they can have something positive instead of creating a community of citizens afflicted with PTSD
