Manchester Oxford Road is one of the principal railway stations serving central Manchester and occupies a compact elevated site on the busy rail corridor linking Piccadilly with Deansgate and destinations farther west. The present station dates mainly from the late 1950s and is particularly notable for its distinctive timber roof structures, created to span the curved platforms while keeping the building relatively lightweight. Its location beside major university, cultural and commercial districts makes Oxford Road an important central stop within Greater Manchester鈥檚 extensive regional rail network.
