Shinsetsu Chemical Corporation showed their new silicon encapsulating or coating material for LEDs, photodiodes, optical waveguide connects and solar cells. As LEDs become more powerful and brighter they also become hotter and old epoxy encapsulating materials are not as capable to deal with these higher temperatures and yellow and crack causing distortion to the light. The silicon coat is made of organically modified silicon resin and silicon rubber which makes them resist cracking during curing which is the process of hardening a material with chemicals, radiation, electron beams, and heat.
