Bill Klauser shares his experience of being a member of the Lions Club and a part of their mission to ensure that those who need it have access to eye glasses and help with their sight. Bill is president of the Sedona/Oak Creek Lion’s Club, and its been a rewarding experience. The Lions Club was founded in the USA in the 1920’s by a group of individuals who’d been challenged by Helen Keller, a woman who famously overcame the difficulties of her own blindness, to help those who have issues with sight. The Lions Club is one of the largest service club organisations in the world, with over a million members worldwide. If you find yourself in need of glasses or an eye examination, go online and punch in Lions Club, and see if you can fill out the paperwork and see if you can get the glasses you need. Bill’s club provide between 2,000 and 5,000 pairs of glasses to Malawi in Africa. He describes how people in these communities will queue for hours to get a pair of glasses, and what a significant feeling it is for him to have been involved in this process. He finishes by showing us his characteristic Lions Club jacket, with its traded badges between members of different clubs.
