How we react to strangers depends on whether they are part of our "ingroup" or "outgroup," and individual reactions to members of the outgroup tend to be negative and practically impossible to prevent. However, who gets placed in those outgroups is flexible. In this video, three human conflict experts discuss the formation of groups and their impact on conflict. This video is part one of a Google+ Hangout with panelists Mahzarin Banaji of Harvard University, Debraj Ray of New York University, and Richard J. Crisp of the University of Kent.
