"United hang on this time" When the referee's assistant raised the board indicating six minutes added on time to go, it looked like United could possibly face late heartache again as they had at Chelsea a week ago. But this time they survived the late Everton onslaught and man- of -the- match Anthony Martial's 49th minute strike proved decisive in only the third home win of the season. The Frenchman's superbly taken winner when he picked up a Paul Pogba pass to curl around the despairing Jordan Pickford seemed to have settled matters. But Everon were given a lifeline when Pogba's carelessness allowed Richarlison to burst through into the penalty area before being clumsily upended by Chris Smalling. Sorgosson slotted home the resultant spot kick to set up a nervy finish but the Reds held firm this time. Earlier, United were the dominant side as Marcus Rashford took over the central striker's role with Romelu Lukaku dropped to the bench following his eight game goal draught. But it was Martial's day as his trickery posed all sorts of problems for the visitors and eventually earned a penalty when he was bundled down inside the box. Up stepped Pogba with his now trademark stuttering run, but Pickford read it well, only to see his excellent save tapped home at the second attempt. Rashford had been ruled offside, Mata fluffed a presentable heading opportunity and Martial had a fierce drive pushed aside as the Reds strode for a second. Everton - on a three game winning run, did carve out a couple of openings themselves but David de Gea , as ever, was up to the task. United controlled most of the second period having doubled their lead, but it took the excellent Victor Lindelof and his co defenders to see their side home. Disappointingly, Lukaku's entrance for Rashford , failed to spark the Belgian striker who contrived to blow a glorious chance late on. But surely after this victory, Mourinho can take things on from here with in form Bournemouth up next ."
