A shopping trip to the home of Everything Is One Dollar proved to be fairly expensive today.Sunday errands turned chaotic this morning, when an out-of-control car destroyed the storefront of Dollar Tree on South Terrace Road, and hit two parked cars nearby. Karen Dodson came to the store to purchase a $1 newspaper. Instead, she got the scare of a lifetime.Well, I came out of Dollar Tree and was getting in my car and heard tires squealing. I looked up, and she hit the Dollar Tree windows. I looked up and she was coming at my car, said shopper, Karen Dodson.Dodson said it was like nothing she'd ever experienced before.I've never been that scared in my life. I have never been that scared. I mean, to hear it, and look up to see a car coming at you... it's scary.Chattanooga Police and Fire crews arrived on the scene shortly after the incident. The owners of the damaged cars filled out incident reports for the police and Dollar Tree. Employees weren't able to speak with us on camera, but they did say the driver is a regular customer. While our crew was there, several people showed up to get their $1 papers, like they do every Sunday. Although they were cleaning up thousands of shards of broken glass, employees still helped their customers.None of the vehicles received any serious damage, but all of them had minor cosmetic issues near the wheel wells. It's unclear whether the driver's brakes failed, or if she accidentally hit the gas pedal of her Honda Accord instead. Regardless of how it happened, Dodson says after all, they're just cars, and she's thankful no one was injured. All I could do was hug her and tell her I'm glad you're okay and no one is hurt. The store closed Sunday following the incident. Employees say they're unsure when their doors will open again.By: Kelsey Bagwell
