Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has condemned the attacks against Saudi Arabia's embassy in Tehran, and its Consulate General in Mashhad in Iran. The Security Council called on all parties to maintain dialogue and take steps to reduce tensions in the region. UN Chief Ban Ki-moon is concerned about the escalating Saudi-Iran tensions, particularly the decision by Riyadh to cut ties with Tehran. Saudi Arabia's mission to the United Nations defended the execution of 47 men, including a prominent Shiite cleric, which outraged Iran, saying all of the accused had been granted fair trials.
