The Nairobi City County is looking to cut costs and improve garbage collection by leveraging on a new technology it has developed in conjunction with IBM Research Lab. The county says it spends 1.4 million shillings on fuel but due to lack of real time monitoring of the vehicles, misuse of the garbage trucks by the drivers has not improved collection. IBM has installed the smart devices in 10 trucks to monitor garbage collection to create a digital map of Nairobi streets.
