Alkan - Canon Op. 65 No 3

This piece starts with the symbolic drawing of a curtain, as in a theater the stage is slowly reveiled and introduced. From this moment of slight suspense and mystery, a solemn melody emerges and soon the two hands sing a canon together, the lower left hand voice imitating the higher right hand part in the next bar. A second part turns the melody into an uncertain, sometimes tragic vision and just at the climax when the future seems unclear, the curtain falls again. At last, a peaceful voice returns the harmony. Unfortunately, my first curtain isn't half as good as the second here ^^ i know i can do better overall than in this performance. Alkan is and stays an underrated master of the miniature! Not to speak of his epic works.
