by John Madewell Fourteen area high school football teams will lace up the cleats and strap on the helmets for action Thursday night. No, your calendar isn't playing tricks on you -- seven games are on tap for Thursday night, not the traditional Friday evening matchups. Some of the schools tell NewsChannel 9 they moved the games up one night because of the UT game tomorrow night in Atlanta.Central High coach John Allen put it this way, "For us, the gate was what was the priority. We didn't want to compete with UT being in Atlanta and Labor Day on Monday. So we felt it was best for us to move it to Thursday because this is really going to cover a lot of our expenses."Central only has four home games this year so gate revenue and concessions are even more important. Admission is at the gate. Allen said, "We need a good gate. We need the support to compete against a team like East Hamilton and I know they travel well. We're expecting a lot of visitors and a lot of our own people."Because it's a school night Central's game starts at 7:00 pm instead of 7:30.Other games played tonight include South Pittsburg vs Lookout Valley, Rhea County at McMinn County, Whitwell at Marion County and Polk County squaring off against McMinn Central. In North Georgia, LFO is at Gordon Lee High School. And in North Alabama, Fort Payne plays at North Jackson.
