Turning to local politics, a city councilman is threatening a lawsuit if a runoff isn't held in the District 9 race. The Hamilton County Election Commission originally voted to declare Yusuf Hakeem the winner after he got 1,030 votes and councilman Peter Murphy received 1,024 votes. But Murphy says no one got 50 percent of the vote and a runoff is legally required. Murphy sent a letter to the election commission requesting that the commission notify him by 5 p.m. today whether his request for a runoff will be granted. Commission staff say the cost of holding a runoff would be around $9,000 dollars.
