First of all, the Cleveland City Council is deadlocked on a request that Councilman Charlie McKenzie resign over racial slurs he allegedly made while working for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office. The council voted 3 to 3 on a call for McKenzie to abandon his position as District 1 councilman. The proposed sanctions come two weeks after McKenzie said he apologized if he offended anyone. Two deputies with the sheriff's office filed statements January 18 about racial slurs they say they heard McKenzie make. Citing medical issues, McKenzie resigned from the sheriff's office in late January. ______2 Next up, a woman accused of cracking her infant niece's skull has been indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury. 28-year-old Jessica Fax was watching her 3-month-old niece, Mia Elizabeth Fry, while the parents were at work October 9th. The infant's father discovered her body about seven hours after the baby died. Fax never said anything happened to the baby and never called an ambulance after the baby suffered five major skull fractures. Authorities say it's unclear what actually happened. Fax is charged with felony murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect. A court date is set May 1st. ____3 Turning to politics, President Barack Obama is praising Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. Hosting the nation's governors at the White House, Obama singled out Tennessee's top Republican as a flexible leader House and Senate Republicans should imitate. The mention came right after the president slammed others for refusing to bend on 85 billion dollars in budget cuts scheduled to begin Friday. Obama said governors know compromise is essential to getting things done. ______4 Turning to movies, if you've seen the current Number 1 box office hit "Identity Thief" and thought you saw a hint of Chattanooga in one scene, congratulations. You have sharp eyes. Makers of the comedy brought helicopters to Chattanooga last summer and filmed a shot of downtown, including the Tennessee Aquarium. Though it's a quick scene, "Identity Thief" is just the latest film to use Chattanooga as a backdrop, following '42' last summer, Water for Elephants in 2011, and, technically, Iron Man 3. ____5 And finally, if you're hungry for Do-si-dos, Thin Mints and other Girl Scout cookies, but you forgot to order a box, don't worry. Nearly 40,000 boxes of the treats have been delivered to Chattanooga for troop leaders and volunteers to sell to anyone who missed the opportunity to order. The troops use the cookies to fund annual activities, from hikes to museum visits. ___ And weather looks rainy for most of the day with a high near 55 degrees and a possible thunderstorm before 11 a.m. The low tonight will be 37.
