COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH. (WKRC) - For the past three weeks 61-year-old Carl Tauchert has been getting around-the-clock care at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center but that has now changes. On October 28th, a tree fell on his truck while he was driving. Family members say Tauchert is now paralyzed from the waist down, he can’t move his left arm and his right arm is very weak. "Seeing him struggle for breath every minute that, and seeing him in the hospital is heart wrenching,” said Kim Croslin, Tauchert’s longtime girlfriend. Croslin says Tacuhert has been a father figure to her children since they were born, one of them now has three children of her own that call Tauchert, grandpa. "He worked third shift so he would come over to my house every morning and he would get our older kids on the bus. He brought them breakfast. He would randomly show up at the house and call out, got the kids some candy and money,” said Maria Croslin. The Croslin’s say Tauchert’s insurance is good enough to cover the care at UCMC and that Tauchert was moved to Cincinnati VA Hospital a few days ago. While he is getting care, the Croslin’s don’t believe it’s enough or the right kind of care but can’t afford to get him to another facility for rehab. "I've looked into charities, I've looked into grants, I've into everything that I can. He just doesn't fall into the categories of being able to get help. We are at our end, we don't know what else we can do for him,” said Croslin. The Croslin’s at this point they just need some direction or where to go for help. The family has also set up a go fund me account to help with medical bills.
