The interview was captured at a particularly interesting moment for both artists.

Only days before FRESH, Kes had introduced “Endless Summer” on Ricky Blaze’s Uptown Julie Riddim. The Brooklyn-produced project connected Soca, Reggae and Dancehall artists including Kes, Gyptian, Zoelah and Ricky Blaze himself.

With Kes performing “Endless Summer” live that night, the interview brought together the Trinidadian band and the Brooklyn producer behind the record just as the song was beginning its 2014 summer run.

Ricky Blaze had already built an international reputation through his work across Dancehall, Reggae, Soca, Pop and electronic music, making the collaboration another example of Caribbean music moving across island and genre boundaries in New York.

Marsha Monelle conducted the interview for Julianspromos as part of the wider FRESH coverage, which also included Kes The Band’s live performance and a separate interview with GBM Nutron.
