ONTARIO - Early Saturday morning April 22nd the City of Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department along with the City of Ontario Water District responded to reports of a sheared hydrant on the border of Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga. A hit and run driver struck and sheared the hydrant around 2:20am on Fouth Street just west of Etiwanda Ave. leaving a trail of car parts along Fourth Street. The sheared hydrant sent water shooting over 100 feet into the air which could be seen from some distance from the actual hydrant. Firefighters along with the Water District worked to shut down the hydrant for 45 minutes. No vehicle description was available but one person at the scene said "It sounded like an explosion" when the driver struck the hydrant. No injuries were reported.
