UC still awaiting testing results of third suspected case of mumps

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Health care providers continue to ask students at a local university to be on high alert for “flu-like symptoms”.

Health care providers at the University of Cincinnati said they did not have word yet on whether the third suspected case of the mumps was confirmed.

A health advisory went out on Wednesday saying they had two confirmed cases, and a third suspected.

Since Dr. Victoria Wulson said that a third case would meet criteria for a potential outbreak by the CDC, they are already advancing the tracking to find potential students at risk.

Those who may have symptoms get treated with comfort care, but they ask them to do something else.

“What we call self-quarantine, we do not want them around anyone else even though all of us have been immunized at low risk you might be one of those people not fully immunized, and could get it, they only need to be self-quarantined for five days,” said Dr. Wulson.

The vaccine against mumps is your best protection.

All campus students are being asked to check that this immunization is up to date.
