COVINGTON, Ky. (Jeff Hirsh) -- There is a good chance people have tried to find somewhere theyve never been by using Google Maps to generate directions. But one local man said drivers are turning wrong by turning right into his property thinking it's a direct route to someplace else. The problem is there's no road where Google said there was on Sugar Camp Road in the southern part of Covington. There's not a lot of 'country' left in Covington except at Tim Khone's place. Chicken coop, barn; country in the city. Tim's friendly but he's been getting a lot of unwanted visitors since moving less than a year ago."At least 12 times or more, at least a dozen times," he told Local 12 News. Each time a car or truck ran on to Tim's property, the driver thought it was a legitimate route to somewhere else."The only thing everyone who comes back here says, Google maps brought them through here," said Tim. Thursday, Feb. 6, a semi-trailer came through, "All the way back to my chicken coop. There's no road." The truck backed out, damaging fences and trees. Now people might think that if they were following what they thought was an accurate map and they got off the paved area and they got onto some gravel they might go, "Hmm, that doesn't seem right." But then if they kept going on some dirt and grass people would think they would definitely say, "This is not right."But that's not what everybody thinks.Tim said, "They continue on for some odd reason. I can't comprehend it. I can't see any logical thing in it. Would you drive through a city park?" The Google map and satellite photo can be confusing. At one point simultaneously calling Sugar Camp Road Kelly Road, and also showing Sugar Camp going in different directions, including the little stub where Tim lives. Is this situation in Covington isolated or is there a larger problem with Google maps? After Googling problems with Google maps, other problems do show up, which have people like Tim Kohne crying "fowl." There is a way to try to get Google to change or clarify a map. But it might be easier to get a criminal record expunged. People can follow a multi-step process on the Google Maps website to contact the mappers, or people can try calling. If people do call they will most likely get a recording saying it will be at least a half-hour wait to talk to a live person. As for the truck that damaged Tim's property, neighbors told Tim it was red with the word 'furniture' on it. But it drove away before anyone could get more information.Follow us on Twitter @Local12 and LIKE us on Facebook for updates!
