The Smart Fish Method is made up of: prone swimming... rolling to Back Float...then rolling to prone swim again. It is best if the students are not taught to use their arms for pulling at all, until they can swim the length of the pool. If they can swim 10 feet, they they can swim forever, because they are able to rest on every back float segment. Front breathing is more tiring. This is the perfect style to teach ALL students, because the transition to Freestyle is seamless. Just add "OVER-WATER BIG ARMS". It is ALSO the best style for students to use, if they are challenged to use their arms while swimming. We alternate the teaching of the whole sequence with the practice of teaching and improving each segment of the sequence. Shiloh has already learned the Swim~Float~Swim sequence. In fact, she has fallen in love with the back float segment, which is typical. By revisiting the prone swim segment, as we did in this video, we hope she will be willing to extend the length of time she prone swims before and after the back float. She has begun kicking a little bit on her back, but she makes more progress through the water in the prone position. It was interesting to see how long she held her breath. In every case, she was not at all close to being out of breath when she reached the platform after having held her breath for as long as 11.3 seconds. Given more time, it would have been interesting to see how long she would go before attempting to roll over for a breath. Throughout her intensive Fast Track week of swim lessons, she continually surprised us with what she was able to learn AND master. Because of Shiloh ... NOW AT WATERSAFE, WE SAY: All Ages, All Abilities, All Skills, All Year!
