With the Rosemary Ainslie circuit running, both the positive and negative supply to the 555 timer are disconnected on camera and the MOSFET keeps oscillating; the gate wire is then pulled off pin 3 entirely and the self-oscillation continues. Draw on the shared shunt falls from about 1.5 mV to under 1 mV, taking the RMS-to-DC spread from roughly 2.8 times to about 7.5 times, and the load still produces heat.
