Written by City News Service -  A crash on the Artesia (91) Freeway that killed a male
driver and sent his female passenger to a hospital in critical condition is
under investigation today.
   The crash was reported at 10:32 p.m. Friday on the eastbound side of the
freeway just west of Pioneer Boulevard, according to the California Highway
Patrol.
   A gray Ford Mustang went over the right side of the freeway and crashed
into a retaining wall, said a news photographer.
   The car was moving at a high rate of speed, heading eastbound on the 91
just east of Studebaker Road, when the male driver lost control and left the
roadway, striking a tree and a sign before hitting the wall, a CHP sergeant who
responded to the crash said.
   One person was pronounced dead at the scene and a second was taken to a
hospital, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher who said
both victims had been trapped in the car.
   The female suffered major injuries, the CHP sergeant said. LOUDLABS NEWS
